After trying several sources, I settled on the version from https://counter-strike-download.net/, and it turned out to be perfect for our needs. The package is completely standalone and does not require Steam at all – you just extract the folder and launch the game. It includes all the classic maps, so you will have plenty to choose from for your matches, and the local network play works without any additional configuration: one person hosts a server, the others connect via the local IP. The bots are also included and behave reasonably well, which is a great backup if someone’s connection fails. What I liked most is that the entire game is portable, so we simply copied the folder to a USB drive and installed it on five computers in a few minutes. It ran smoothly on a mix of Windows 10 and 11 machines, with no crashes or missing files. If you want a hassle-free setup for your LAN party, this is definitely the option I would recommend.
